System Shock may in fact be an adventure game, but different from other adventure games of today you do not just roam around triggering the next story element. Indeed, your actions are not tied only to the plotline. So, maybe it is not an adventure game at all.

System Shock may in fact be a role-playing game, but different from other role-playing games of today you do not just about complete…

Oh what an excellent game this is - and Looking Glass - who the heck gave you the ideas? I mean, every single looking glass game is an absolute classic!

But oh this game! Playing it again right now (just got back into Citadel Cyberspace -the neon reminds me of Tron 2.0!)and it's sucking me in all over again! Stories are what make games, and great stories make great games - and this is one of the best! If you haven't played this game, you haven't had as much gaming fun as you think you've had! :)

Dano,

Weird. I actually just spent about 2 hours getting this to work on XP, and while reading about it, found your post. I used a program called VDSM to run it. You install VDSM and then can right-click on the exe and choose that option. Works great.

Played this game years ago and loved it. I'm feeling nostalgic and want to play it again but it's a DOS game and won't boot on my Windows XP machine. Anyone know of a patch that allows you to play DOS games on Windows XP?

Same John as above. Still playing the game and it's still fantastic! In fact, as modern games become so clone like, I find myself going back to my older games more and more and buying new games less and less. Could that explain PC game sales on the decline and retro gaming on the climb?

fly in a hovercraft? What the hell version of the game did you play? You might be thinking of the Jump Jet Boots.

Ive bought Systemshock in 1995.
I was just 13 years old at that time.
Back then i couldnt make it far because of
my very limited english knowlege.
I was very thrilled about the story and the flair
which this game has indeed.

I just made it trough on combat, cyber, and plot stage 3
and puzzle stage 2. It was a very tough ride !!
But you cannot make it trough without dying.
I will try again to play it trough on 2,2,2,2
but without saving ... like it would be real..

This game has a VR goggles interface ... CRAZY !!
in 1995 ! for the VFX goggles ..

I think is Game is great !

I wish they would make a movie close tho the original Story... with the original Citadel Station .. but with more pre and post story ..

About the final show-dawn :-) :
I think the cyberspace on the bridge is far to easy
on Cyberlevel 3.
Its really not challenging to kill Shodan.
Ok .... on the other hand .. without using Save slots troughout the game it is hard enough !!!

I played SS2 as well and the final at SS2 is even more boring than it is in SS1.

.. final evaluation : great game !!

System Shock is a great game, but beware win98 2nd edition, you'll have a lot of memory tweaking to get it to work (or not as the case may be!)
