This game is not one you win over the weekend!  Almost every single item in the game has a caption if you run the mouse over it, and clicking on it gives at least a one sentence description.  The storyline, though complicated, is easy enough to follow if you pay attention.  The voices are wonderful, except maybe the female characters, which all mostly sound the same.  Watson keeps track of all dialogue which has a search option, and questioning everyone is easy to follow since it highlights comments you have not made yet.  Although I have heard complaints about the darts game being too hard, perhaps it is a PC problem for these gamers, since I found it easy enough after just a few tries.  It is imperative to click on every possible thing, ask everyone all possible dialogues, and try to use all inventory items everywhere logical!  It is linear, but if you do these things, it is usually not too hard to progress.  I did find one spot that resulted in a dead end, which was not noticing a certain newspaper before other aspects of different locations progressed, at which point the newspaper was no longer obtainable, thus stopping the game due to a lack of a new map location.  Other than this, I have found no problems.  I did have a few technical problems with running this game on newer computers, and especially running it with the speech of the characters intact, but with the free download off the internet of DosBox, this problem was fixed immediately.  (DosBox also immediately fixed the eternal cab ride in Laura Bow 2: Dagger of Amon Ra, much to my delight!) I would highly recommend this game to anyone who is a mystery adventure game lover!  Especially if you love Sherlock Holmes, too!  You can save at any location with multiple save slot choices, so it is convenient in that sense.  Though I don’t recommend playing it in five minute increments due to hightened confusion of the plot line.  Although the graphics aren’t spectacular to today’s standards, for 1996 I was really impressed, especially with the smooth movements of the characters.  It is mostly point and click, but there are a few areas where the keyboard are needed for riddles and such.  I bought this game back in 1997 in a small video game store in the mall, where it was clearanced out.  It is hands down my favorite game ever due to its intense level of detail, story appeal, and the many different locations and aspects available in the game.  It takes at least twenty hours of play, and not the twenty hours advertised by many game companies, I mean sitting there, figuring things out, and continuously on the computer twenty hours.  AT LEAST.  Plus it’s Sherlock Holmes, so he outwits people and figures things out.  I especially like the lab experiments it lets you play; it is great to feel smart!  There is so much detail and so many things to do, I easily get stuck at places each time I replay it.  It is not a one time game, I have played it at least a dozen times and still enjoy it and rediscover things I had forgotten!  I wish they would make a third “Lost Files of” game.  Compared to the first game, The Serrated Scalpel, this game is much longer, much better graphics, much more voice acting (which includes the voice of Sherlock and Watson, exactly how one would imagine they sound!), more locations using the same map system, more detailed items, more speakable dialogue, much harder puzzles, and much more fun!  I give this game a five for being excellent!

I agree completely w/ the review of Lost files of Sherlock Holmes - The Case of the Rose Tattoo , had to get my wife to win the darts game for me, after days of trying. We both ran several files of the game to cross check & spent many hrs of enjoyment over a period of 7 month to solve the game. It does help to collaborate. I have been looking for a copy of Lost files of Sherlock Holmes - Case of the Serrated Scalpel, where can I get a CD of it?

I was just surfing the web looking for some new good adventures like the ones I used to play in former times. And suddenly I found a link referring to the Sherlock Holmes’ Lost Files of series. There were many adventures I enjoyed earlier. But those two games are my absolute favorites!

I love mystery adventure games. When will the makers of rose tattoo a Sherlock Holmes PC game going to make another. All the Sherlock Holmes series I bought and LOVED. I have windows ME and I would buy the series of these older games but I have to know first will it mess up my windows drivers? Please if you know email me and let me know.
Even though I am an adult I plan on buying Nancy Drew’s secret to kill new game. If anyone knows a great PC game with updated windows even if it is shareware, that has great graphics, and voices, please feel free to email me. I do like Case Closed, playing the demo and tonight I am going to purchase it for I keep winning the demo now.
I love this website! If anyone knows more of the same especially where we can test the games before buying them, please email me back. Being a minister I have to unwind sometimes and I find playing Mystery Adventure games a way to do so.
