Unexplained deaths. A bizarre murder case going nowhere. A voodoo connection. A cocky too-charming-for-his-own-good writer struggling with an as-yet-unfinished mystery novel based on the voodoo murders. A haunting dream of guilt and blood. Old family mysteries and unwritten histories. Chill with ice...

It's intriguing enough to hook a great many readers as the plot of a book. It's just edgy…

Ingrid has beautifully illustrated why the first three games in this series were so exciting, and have become so beloved. I have no doubt that a fourth would be, as well.

There is always room in the market for a well-planned, dynamic, interactive game. In fact, I hardly buy new games because they lack the very qualities that defined the GK series: "real" characters, sound plot, beautiful score, challenging puzzles and imagination.

Here's hoping GK4 becomes a reality.

I doubt Vivendi Universal would be interested in a fourth instalment, but I doubt it would be impossible persuade them to sell the rights to one game to another developer (preferably in Europe where adventures are all the rage and given greater respect).

Perhaps if Grey Matter becomes a critic and financial success then that could also persuade VI to consider a fourth.

I understand that the series has always been about being one step ahead of the game in terms of technology (2nd using real actors, 3rd in revolutionary 3D) but I'm certain pre-rendered graphics to the quality of Still Life would easily do the series justice, if the game engine and graphics style was ever an issue.

Ingrid, I read your entire article and liked it very much. Its very well written. I played all 3 Gabriel Knight games and they remain high on my list of favorites. I liked Beast Within the best, because I enjoyed the story a little more than the others, especially the real King Ludwig's Castle and tour. I found it very educational and interesting. I would love to see a GK4, but it is my understanding that Jane Jensen doesn't have the rights to do that though I don't know the details. I am looking forward to Gray Matter, though I find the title a bit dull sounding, but Jane is a very talented person and so far whatever she has written and/or designed has been very well done and successful. Thanks for your article Ingrid. Keep it going.
