Since current interest in the graphic adventure genre seems to be fading out, it is with a sense of nostalgia that I check out and list some of the most memorable graphic adventures of the past. By adventures I am referring to games in which the gameplay is more focused on problem solving than actions or statistics to reach a predefined goal. While most adventure games are made for the PC, there…

Sorry for the double post. But you have Rise of the Dragon. That game was definitely influenced and has some of Snatcher in it...as well as Blade Runner.

Funny the name of one of the Rise of Dragon's characters is Snake...

Snake is a character from Kojima's series: Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid.

Adventure gaming and you even have Sega CD games and NO Snatcher?!

Snatcher is simply the best! It's a classic masterpiece! Policenauts is also outstanding.

Hideo Kojima went on to make the legendary Metal Gear Solid series as well!

Just for the record, the phrases in Monkey Island are:

-"Hi, My name is Guybrush Threepwood, and I want to be a pirate."

-"Look behind you! A three-headed monkey."

the other king's quest, police quest, the dig, fate of atlantis, full throttle are all excellent games. however this a top 10 of pc-to-console games, and those games have never been released on console. that's why they aren't included. King's Quest V on the NES is included though. If I had written a top 10 of classic retro games for PC, those games would be definitely included.

This article is too black-and-white! For instance, two king's quests but no police quests or glorys, no dig, no indiana jones?

It would seem that these games are the ONLY games the writer has ever played!!!

Kings Quest V was also on the NES...

* An Apple Mac is actually also a Personal Computer (PC), just with another operating system. The PSP version of Myst wasn't released yet when I wrote this article.

* the Sega CD is the most successful console for adventure gaming in my countdown, because it features three games.

* Flasback is widely recognized as a classic hybrid of an adventure and action game.

Poor

Do some research! This article is very poor indeed.
"10. Myst"
Was first released on Apple MAC, not PC. Has been released on PSP as well.

"Rise of the Dragon is the third (if counting in Flashback: The Quest for Identity) graphic adventure game titles available on the Sega CD, which makes it the most successful console for adventure games!"
Ummm why exactly is that? No other consoles have more than three adventures? Right... Get a clue.

"5. Flashback: The Quest for Identity"
Well, you said it yourself, not a proper adventure. So what the **** is it doing in a "Top 10 retro graphic adventures games of all time" list? It's not as if there aren't dozens of others to choose from that are as good or better, if only you had bothered to do some research... Especially since you say that you didn't like Broken Sword that much. Why include games you didn't like and games that aren't proper adventures?

"Ever having bother to read any book by Terry Pratchett? No? Neither have I." Well, you should.

So, what about the other Broken Swords, the other Monkey Islands, what about Still Life, Syberia, Egypt, Atlantis and CSI, to name a few?
