For better or worse, Larry Laffer is among the most recognized cult heroes in adventure games. Larry is a very unusual fellow. He wears a white polyester leisure suit, has his hair combed back, and carries a cheesy grin. Larry is, or at least tries to be, a ladies' man. Whenever he sees a gorgeous babe, he does his best to show her how sexy (or grotesque) he is. Still, it is refreshing to play a…

I don't agree on the second "downside" the reviewer listed in Leisure Suit Larry 2: Leisure Suit Larry goes Looking For Love (In All the Wrong Places). I quote:

"The second downside is that there is no voice acting in the game, even though this limitation may be unavoidable given the technology available at the time when this game was created."

I don't think it's fair to call this a downside of the game. That's like saying that a downside of a classic Western movie was that it didn't have any chain guns or grenade launchers. Larry 2 was made before CD-ROMs were used -- even if the capability was there, I really doubt they could fit anything except for one or two quips on those diskettes.

The voice acting in LSL6 and 7 was, in my opinion, great. Especially the narrator. Sierra really hit the jackpot with that fellow, as well as with Gary Owens in Space Quest. However, I really don't think it's fair to list a downside of a digital antique as "there wasn't any voice acting."

Otherwise, I agree on everything. My only problem with the game is the timed puzzle with Momma. But I loved the game. All of the LSL games are wonderful.

To complain about Leisure Suit Larry 2 having no voice acting is like... complaining about a silent movie having no voice acting :) I think the reviewer should study the reviews of the King's Quest games, especially KQ5, to get some perspective on adventure gaming history.

But I guess in ten years some reviewer will review Grim Fandango and complain about its lousy graphics :)
