There are 4 recognized subgenres of adventure games—graphic adventure, puzzle adventure, horror adventure, and action adventure. Each subgenre offers a different mix of gameplay and challenges to the players. Despite this diversity, there has been a steady decline in the number of adventure titles being published. johnny,

I had similar problems.
first thing to do is, get the Outcast patch 3, it is the only patch that is almost 12 MB size.
IIRC, you can install the game via this patch,
BUT, the install routine also seems to have some time measurement stuff in it to check if your PC is fast enough, which overflows on modern fast machines and the game gets deinstalled after installing automatically, because of this error.
TRICK: see further below.
in Windows 2000 SP4 it installed and ran well without any tricks on a AMD DURON 700 though,
but on other systems/ faster machines problems have been reported.
TRICK: use a slow-down program WHILE INSTALLING (via the 12 MB patch installing feature).
I used, years ago, I think a demo version of CPU Kill or something, took away lots of CPU power before/during the installation of Outcast via 12 MB patch, then deactivated it. and the game ran fine on the machine in Win98 back then.
btw. you NEED to have the automatical CD detection frature turned on in your windows, to play outcast, IIRC.
hope that helps.

Hi, I have problems playing this game. I have Windows XP.
When I run the game, it says "bad audio tracks, continue?" If I continue, I won't hear the music in the game. I tried to remove that with some CPU grabber, but it didnt work. Please help.

well, I just started to play Dreamfall on my Xbox and first thing that came to my mind when I started playing was "God...about 6 years ago Ive played such an amazing adventure game....what was its name...."

and then I recalled...OUTCAST. PERFECT GAME! Its not often that I finish games....especially adventure games...I mean I play A LOT! buy rarely finish any game (maybe except fps and rts games but they have to be really good like HL or Fear or Company of Heroes for example). But Outcast! Man this game is good. And the sound! The story....everything is great about this game. And really hope there will be a remake some day so I can relive the adventure again.

The only Sci-Fi open-ended PC action/adventure/rpg game that compares with the fantasy ones, like Morrowind and Baldurs Gate, etc in terms of immersive, story-telling, characterization of an alien world, art design, world design, music, speech and gameplay.

I would also say this game can be played in god mode so you can breeze through the fighting, or cheats are available to make your guns and bullets as strong as you need to be "competitive" in the fighting parts for adventure gamers who are no good at action/twitch/fighting. Despite getting around the fighting with the above, the adventure part of the game is still good enough to be played and enjoyed enormously. It is more adventure then action anyway, but because of brilliant AI the fighting is quite hard. There are plenty of reviews out there and the game, in general, seems to have garnered an average score of about 85%. So if you are a point and click adventurer who has avoided this game because it is an action adventure, do yourself a favour. Buy this game, use the cheats and have yourself one of the best pure adventure games ever released.

Hello,

my name is Monica from Sweden.
I have the pc game "Outcast" and wonder if you could help me with two problems?

1. I'll must replace the power keys correctly in the 3 temples (in Shamazaar)
but the problem is that I can't understand the Sankra Tablet. So I can't replace the keys correctly.
Do you know how?

2. I stopped the waterfall in Okaar (the forest world) and got the wood key.
Now I'll must find one more wood key to get the mon. Where can I find the key?

I would be grateful for your help. Thank you!

Greetings,
Monica
