The review was completely horrible and inaccurate. Sierra has long been at the forefront(and the masters) of adventure/roleplay gaming. It is the modern age of games that leaves everything to be desired, as the big companies seem to be unable(or too idiotic) to be able to combine both state-of-the-art graphics with a good story and easy-to-handle gameplay. Sierra did this with Phantasmagoria and was comletely advanced for it's time with the games graphics and video sequences. The last chapter was exciting and diverse and the way the environment conformed around your actions and made changes to the game was amazing. This was truly just one more great game by the greatest game makers of all time -- Sierra; and the time and consideration obviously put into it's enjoyment(more than it's bedazzlement) only goes to prove how much the care about gamers.

Terrible critique from someone who obviously was closed-minded and too incompetent to give a well-rounded and versatile review.

As we compare the game to modern day games, of course we see the acting as over-the-top in parts and the game play as easy in others. However, gamers must remember that this was one of the first major FMV games to ever come out. I was so amazed and excited to see live actors on my computer for once! And I DEFINITELY remember being scared and frightened by many parts (okay, so I was sixteen, but come on, it IS a freaky game for younger players!)!

One must also remember that the game is somewhat replayable! There are interesting secrets to find out, hidden clues, and other options of solving the game that you can discover. And I rate a game VERY much by its replayability (makes it last longer!).

The worst thing about the game, sadly, is the ending. I have always looked to be fulfilled by the ending of a computer game, or to be rewarded in some small way (yes, I know computer games can only do so much). The "Monty Python" CD ROM games have the best rewards for finishing, but Phantasmagoria does not. She leaves the house, and that's it? At least the game sparked my desire to write better endings and continuations to the story! ;)

Kudos to Roberta Williams, though, for a WONDERFUL game. It may be an interactive version of "The Shining," but goshdarnit, it's in a special place on my shelf!!! :)
