Spoiler alert! The following cheat contains spoilers in the form of hints, walkthroughs, guides, or solutions to the game. Viewer discretion is advised.
The game begins with a series of cinematic cut scenes. The first scene shows Darren Michaels / Adrian Gordon running through the forest carrying a torch. He arrives at Black Mirror Castle, only to see it entirely engulfed in fire. Upon asking for help from the police at the scene, he is instead arrested for the murder of Amanda Valley. The next scene shows a flashback 12 hours prior. Inspector Conrad Spooner and Constable Zak are at the lighthouse where they find Amanda's body. The next scene shows a flashback 9 hours prior. Inspector Spooner is questioning Tom at the pub. Tom gives an alibi of being with Bobby at the theme park at the time of the murder. He also tries to implicate Darren by saying that Amanda and Darren have been seen together 3 days earlier. The final scene shows a flashback 6 hours prior. Inspector Spooner is examining Amanda's apartment. He finds clippings of her brother's murder at the hands of Samuel Gordon as well as news clippings about Darren. Constable Zak enters the apartment to inform Inspector Spooner that Black Mirror Castle is alight.

General tips

Select Options in the Main Menu to change the game settings. When playing the game, the menu can be accessed by pressing Esc.

Left click the mouse to perform an action. Right click the mouse to examine an object.

Press the spacebar to show all hotspots. This is available only if you have enabled the HotSpots option in the settings.

Exhaust all dialogs when talking to characters to uncover key information. Failure to do so may prevent you from progressing through the game and force you to backtrack later on to locate the missing information.

Read through all notes and letters that you find and all entries in Adrian's diary to uncover key information.

A cheat lever will appear at the bottom right of the screen whenever you have made several unsuccessful attempts to solve a puzzle. Click on the lever once it becomes available to bypass the puzzle.

Many tasks within each chapter can be completed in random order. All of the tasks must be done, however, before the game can progress to the next chapter.

You cannot lose the game by dying. An automatic save is triggered just before you die. Making frequent saves is still advised to avoid unnecessary backtracking.

Adrian and Darren are the same character. However, he is addressed as Adrian exclusively once he is recognized as a member of the Gordon family.

Once a location is visited, the location will appear on the walking map. Click on it on the walking map to return to that location quickly.

For Chapters I to V, you play as Darren / Adrian only. For Chapter VI, you play as either Adrian or Valentina. Click on the picture at the top left of the screen to change between the characters.

Click off the dialog boxes on Marcus and Mordred once these topics have been selected for the first time to avoid repetition of the same information being given.

Chapter I

Willow Creek

Dr. Winterbottom's office

A cinematic cut scene is played. It has been 3 weeks after the fire. Darren is undergoing a psychotherapy session with Dr. Joyce Winterbottom. The session is interrupted by Constable Zak, who tells Dr. Winterbottom that Inspector Spooner wants to talk to Darren immediately.

Police station

A cinematic cut scene is played. Inspector Spooner is talking to Darren at the police station. He wants Darren to be deported back to the United States. However, he reluctantly lets Darren go free after learning that somebody has paid for the bail for Darren.

You are now playing as Darren. Go left to enter the jail cells. Enter the open cell. Open Darren's locker to get a pencil. Darren discovers his diary is missing. Talk to Matt in the next cell who has Darren's diary. Matt reads Darren's diary out aloud and taunts him. Matt tears out some pages from the diary. Darren has a vision of stabbing him with the pencil. He then picks up the torn diary from the floor. Exit the cells to enter the office. Darren signs for his possessions. He is given his wallet but not his passport. Constable Zak gives Darren a card. It is from Dr. Jones, a solicitor who wants Darren to contact him. Darren exits the police station to the village square.

Telephone box

Go to the red telephone box at the side of the building. Use Dr. Jones' card on the telephone. Talk to Dr. Jones. Learn about Inspector Spooner and the American Embassy. Ask about getting a copy of Darren's police file.

Notice a red business card on the telephone box door. Get the red business card. Use Madame Fortuna's card on the telephone to get Darren's fortune told. Madame Fortuna asks Darren to select a card. Darren selects the Tower card. She warns him that he will be ripped apart by wild animals. She tells him, "Stay away from wild beasts." Exit the telephone box.

Three Kegs Inn

Go left past the ladies sitting on the bench. Look under the menu board left of the entry to the inn. Get the sponge.

Fairground booth

Go right to the village square. Go right twice across the village square to the fairground booth. Look at the table. Get the menu board. Go up to enter the old fashioned shop.

Old fashioned shop

Dorothy, a crazy old lady, recognizes Darren. She runs out of the shop. Talk to Abaya the Indian shopkeeper behind the counter. Notice the walking maps on the counter. Try to get a walking map. Abaya offers Darren a free walking map. Get a walking map. Exit the shop to the village square.

Police station

Go left to enter the police station. Talk to Inspector Spooner. He refuses to give his file to Darren. Learn about 2 birth certificates: a certificate for Darren Michaels born in Boston Massachusetts and a certificate for Adrian Gordon. Exit the station to the village square. Go right to enter the café.

Café

Look at the counter. There are no donuts left. Talk to Denise behind the counter. Learn that the donuts are reserved for Inspector Spooner. Order a cup of coffee to divert Denise's attention. Go right immediately to enter the storage room. Look at the storage racks. Get a box of donuts from the second bottom row of the third rack. Look at the wash bucket to the right on the floor. Use the sponge on the bucket to get a wet sponge. Open the freezer to the right. Use the box of donuts on the freezer. Use the wet sponge on the rubber seals of the lid. Darren closes the lid of the freezer. Go left to exit the storage room.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren takes a seat at a table. Inspector Spooner comes in and wants some donuts. Denise informs him that the donuts are in the freezer and the seals are frozen. They both head into the storage room to try and open the freezer. Darren exits the café to the village square. Enter the police station.

Police station

Talk to Constable Zak at the desk. Learn about Inspector Spooner. Learn that the photocopier is broken. Constable Zak will only copy the file for Darren if Darren can fix the photocopier.

Photocopier

Turn around to go to the photocopier behind Darren. Click on the copier to get a close-up view of the wiring (Figure 1). Learn that the fuse is blown and the 4 blown wires need replacing. He needs to connect the black power button with the green copy button.

Right click the 4 blown wires to move them to the side (Figure 2). Right click the 3 good wires and move them to the bottom (Figure 3). Right click each of the good wires again to rotate it. Place the 3 good wires into their new locations to complete the new improvised circuit (Figure 4). Press the black power button. Press the green copy button. When done correctly, Darren will say, "That should do it."

Go to Constable Zak. Talk to him to tell him the photocopier is fixed. Learn that he will not give Darren the file but instead will copy it and mail it to Dr. Jones. Exit the police station to the village square.

Village Square

Go right to the letterbox. Use the menu board from the fairground booth table on the letterbox. Wait until Constable Zak posts Darren's file in the letterbox. Go to the letterbox to get Darren's file. Read the file (in the inventory). Darren adds the diary papers to the file. Learn about Murray's false incriminating testimony and the illness to Lady Victoria at Black Mirror Castle.

Gordon's Palace Hotel

Hotel lobby

Go left to cross over the bridge. Go right to follow the road to the hotel. Enter the hotel. Talk to Murray at the lobby.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Murray refuses to change his testimony. He offers Darren a room. He wants a Polaroid photo of Darren with a bloodied knife in return for an alibi. Get a Polaroid camera, a rucksack with an image of Samuel Gordon, and a key for free lodging in Room 2 from Murray. Open the rucksack (in the inventory). Get a Samuel Gordon lighter, a bloody plastic knife, and a plastic soul key (with no battery).

Talk to Murray again. Go right to exit the hotel.

Black Mirror Castle

Castle gate

Use the walking map (in the inventory) to go to Willow Creek. Darren is now outside the museum. Read the notice about the opening of the new museum on the door. Go left to Dr. Winterbottom's house next door. Use the intercom on the door. Learn that she is busy with a patient. She tells Darren to come back later. Go left to the main road. Notice a gravel path that turns right off the main road to the lighthouse and another path that turns left to the woods. Go up to a fork in the road. The left fork is an unmade road that leads to Warmhill village. The right fork leads to Black Mirror Castle. Go along the right fork. Darren is now standing in front of the main gate to Black Mirror Castle.

Go right to the smaller gate. Use the intercom. The gate opens.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren is greeted by Sister Valentina Antolini. Learn that she is Lady Victoria's nurse.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren goes inside the castle and stops just outside Lady Victoria's bedroom. Talk to Valentina. Learn about the renovations to the castle and Lady Victoria's poor health. Darren is taken inside Lady Victoria's bedroom.

Lady Victoria's bedroom

Lady Victoria is in bed asleep. Look around the bedroom. Click twice on the portrait hanging above the bed. Darren wonders if the portrait is that of Angelina or a very young Lady Victoria. Talk to Lady Victoria. Darren gets no reply. Talk about the fire. Lady Victoria asks Adrian about the fire. She says that Adrian is weak and cannot stand up to the ghost of Mordred (Gordon). She wants Adrian to leave. Darren has a terrifying vision of him trying to suffocate Lady Victoria. Valentina appears and escorts Darren back to the entrance gate.

Castle gate

Use the Polaroid camera on the main gate. Darren takes a photo of himself holding the bloody plastic knife from Murray's rucksack. Use the walking map to go back to Gordon's Palace Hotel. Enter the hotel.

Hotel lobby

Go to the lobby. Talk to Murray. Give the Polaroid photo to Murray. Exit the lobby to the rooms to the left.

Hotel room 2

Look right at the hotel floor plan hanging on the wall. Learn that Darren's room, Room 2, is next door to Murray's room. Turn around to enter Room 2.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren unpacks and hides the rucksack under the television set.

Get the mysterious anonymous letter from the floor. Apparently, somebody believes in Darren's innocence.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren reads the letter. Learn about Samuel Gordon's grave.

There is nothing else to do in the room. Exit room to go to the lobby.

Hotel lobby

Talk to Murray about the Gordon graves. Learn about a relocated graveyard behind the hotel and a family mausoleum in Warmhill. Use the walking map to go back to Willow Creek.

Willow Creek

Café

Go left to cross over the bridge. Go right to cross the village square. Enter the café. Dorothy gets frightened by Darren again and leaves the café. Talk to Dr. Winterbottom sitting at a table. Learn about the history Warmhill as a mining village. She recommends that Darren tries hypnosis as an alternative treatment. Go right to talk to Bobby. Bobby tells Darren that his brother, Tom, wants to kill Darren. Talk to Edward the waiter. Talk to Denise. Learn that she is engaged to Edward. Exit the café to enter the police station.

Police station

Talk to Inspector Spooner. Once again, he is less than helpful. Try to talk to Constable Zak. He is too busy to help. Use the walking map to go to the castle gate.

Warmhill church

The woods

Go left to the woods to return to the main road. Go along the left fork. Go left twice to cross over the bridge. Notice another fork in the main road. Go left to follow the main road. Darren is now standing in front of the Warmhill church.

Churchyard

Look around the graves in the churchyard. Notice a fresh grave to the right. Go to the back gate. It is locked. Go left of the entrance. Look at Miss Valley's grave. Go left to enter the graveyard.

Graveyard

Go to the large gravestone at the back. Learn that it belongs to Darren's great grandfather, William Gordon. Go left to look at the family crypt. Look at the back gate. It is locked. Go right to go to the church. Enter the church.

Church

Go left to go to the confessional. Notice Mark the gravedigger taking a nap. Talk to Mark. Learn about the destructive wild boars running loose at night, Mordred's voracious hell-hounds, and the suicides buried in anonymous graves. Only Father Frederick, the priest, knows where Samuel Gordon is buried. He is, however, gone for the day. Exit the church. It is now night time. Exit the churchyard into the woods. Darren is back at the fork in the main road.

Woods

Go right to the bridge. Darren hears the sound of wild boars or hell-hounds. Try to cross the bridge.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Half way across, Darren has a nightmarish vision of a wild boar. Gruesome hell hounds approach Darren from each end of the bridge trapping him, exactly as the fortune teller has predicted. Turn around. Run quickly up the beaten path to a hut. Darren enters the hut and closes the door on the voracious snarling hell-hounds.

Hut

Look through the window beside the door.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren sees the ghostly figure of a white lady dressed in white.

Try to leave the hut. Darren finds himself mysteriously locked inside. Look around the shack. Use the Samuel Gordon lighter on the oil lamp at the head of the bed. Darren says, "I can see now." Look at the peculiar shadow above the lamp. Click on the lamp to get a rusty key that is making the shadow. Look to the top right corner of the door to the shed. Get the petrol can from the shelf. Look below the shelf. Get the file. Click on the bed twice to look under it. A cardboard box is under the bed but out of reach. Go to the left side of the door to the shed to get the rake. Use the rake on the bed to get the cardboard box. Open the cardboard box (in the inventory). It belongs to Ralph (from Black Mirror II). Get Mr. Bubby, a glow-in-the-dark sticker, and some corks.

Turn around to go to the main door of the shack. Look at the box with a padlock. Use the rusty key on the padlock. Open the box to get the cowl from the Order for proof of its existence. Get the badly torn message, corkscrew, rule or yardstick, and the chainsaw.

Go to the floorboards in front of the door to the shed. Use the rule on the floorboards. The shack is built on stilts. Try to use the chainsaw on the floorboards. Alas, the chainsaw is out of gas. Use the petrol can on the chainsaw. Use the cork on the chainsaw to plug the hole. Use the chainsaw on the floorboards to make a trapdoor. Exit through the hole in the floor.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren has another vivid vision and collapses to the ground.

Chapter II

Willow Creek

Dr. Winterbottom's office

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren has a flashback of him and his sister running through the woods as children. His sister disappears in a hole. Darren wakes up with no recollection of the events. Instead, Darren find himself undergoing a second psychotherapy session with Dr. Winterbottom. She asks Darren to try and locate the place in the woods in his vision. She diagnoses Darren with suppressed memory. Darren is given a medication prescription for Haloperidox. He is to pick it up from Abaya at the old fashioned shop.

Talk to Dr. Winterbottom. Learn about Darren's symptoms for suppressed memory. Learn about the legend of the white lady. Go left to the stairs. Go down the stairs to exit the office. Look in the inventory. Learn that the cowl (in the inventory) is now missing.

Village square

Cross over the bridge to the village square. Go right to the fairground booth. Talk to Matt. He is very unfriendly and sarcastic. Turn around to go to the telephone box.

Telephone box

Use the Madame Fortuna's card on the telephone. Madame Fortuna asks Darren to select a card. Darren selects the Chariot card. Madame Fortuna foresees DEATH! She tells me, "Someone will shoot out his lights." Learn that Darren is to avoid shooting. Exit the telephone box. Go to the old fashioned shop to get Darren's medication.

Old fashioned shop

Try to enter the shop. The shop is closed. Go left to enter the police station.

Police station

Talk to Constable Zak. He is not helpful. Darren tells him about the dogs and the shack from the previous night. Exit the police station to the village square. Go right to enter the café.

Café

Talk to Edward. Exit the café to the village square.

Dr. Winterbottom's office

Go across the village square. Cross over the bridge. Go to Dr. Winterbottom's office. Use the intercom. Darren is invited in up to her office. Talk to Dr. Winterbottom. Learn that Abaya is away on Tuesdays to attend a self-defense class. Learn that Darren's medication is left in the barrel outside the shop. Go down the stairs to exit the office. Cross over the bridge.

Old fashioned shop

Go to the old fashioned shop. Look at the barrel to the left of the doorway. Look in the barrel. Get the package addressed to Murray at Gordon's Palace Hotel. Get the medication. Examine the medication (in the inventory). Darren thinks that he is officially crazy. Use the walking map to go to Gordon's Palace Hotel. Enter the hotel.

Go to the lobby. Murray is not in his office. Go left to enter Murray's office.

Murray's office

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren places the package on Murray's desk. He notices a receipt for his bail on the desk. It is Murray who has paid Darren's bail. Murray enters the room. Darren and Murray get into an argument. Darren is livid and storms out the room saying, "Let room service know that I am checking out." Darren is now in the lobby. Use the walking map to go to Warmhill church.

Warmhill church

Try to enter the church. The door is locked. Go right to the side gate at the back of the church. Open the gate to enter the priest's living area.

Priest's house

Go left to the side of the house. Get the tree loppers leaning against the house. Knock on the front door. There is no answer. Go to the shed. Talk to Mark. Learn that "only those of pure of heart" can see the white lady. Turn around. Go down to exit through the gate. Exit the churchyard into the woods. Darren is now at the bridge.

Hut

Go along the left fork. Darren is at the hut. Notice the drag marks on the ground. Go left to the beaten track.

Crossing in the woods

Go right to cross over the bridge. Go right thrice. Darren is at the fork in the main road. Go right to go down the road leading back to Willow Creek. Go right at the crossing in the woods to take the gravel path.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren has another flashback. He sees 2 children playing and a sign on a building with the word MORGUE on it.

Tumbledown building

Notice a gate to the left with a sign and barbed wire on it. The gate can only be opened from the other side. Use the tree lopper on the barbed wire. Click on the fence to climb over it. Darren recalls playing outside the building with Angelina as children. The sign above the house now reads GORE. Darren deduces that 2 letters are missing. Go to the car. Look inside the car.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren has a flashback of a woman's body inside the car.

Turn right to go to the place on edge of the woods. Go to the entrance of the house. Try to use the intercom. Go left to look at the dark place in the bushes. Get another Ralph's glow-in-the-dark sticker. Go left to the end of the house. Look at the garbage bin. It has a lock on it. Go left to the place behind the fence. There is no trace of any hole in the ground. Turn around. Go right of the garbage bin. Look at the place in the bushes. Darren then says, "I don't think searching here anymore will help." Use the walking map to jump to the Warmhill church.

Warmhill church

Enter the church. Go up the aisle to talk to Father Frederick. Learn about the history of the church and the curse put on the Gordon family. Father Frederick does not know in which anonymous grave that Samuel Gordon is buried. He gives Darren a list of the deceased for funerals occurring in August 1981.

Look at the list (in the inventory). There are 6 names left on it: Henry Stanton, Dr. Heinz Hermann, Dr. Robert Gordon, Victor Sebastian Valley, James (Gordon), and Samuel Gordon. Talk to Father Frederick. Learn about Dr. Hermann in charge of the mortuary. Father Frederick does not have any information on Henry Stanton and suggests that Darren speaks to Mark about him. Dr. Robert Gordon the manager of the sanatorium. James Gordon is William Gordon's illegitimate son. Learn about the importance of the Last Rites. Father Frederick does not mention about Victor Valley. Exit the church. Go right to enter the gate to the Priest's house.

Priest's house

Go up to the shed. Talk to Mark about Henry Stanton. Learn that Henry is a drunk and a lone wolf and is also the castle gardener. Turn around. Go down to exit the gate to the right.

Graveyard

Go left past the church. Notice a grave under the tree. It is Miss Valley's grave. Learn about her father, Victor Valley. This eliminates Victor Sebastian Valley from the list. Go left to enter the graveyard. Go left to the broken fence. Look at the anonymous graves. Look at the list (in the inventory). There are 7 names on the list, but there are only 5 graves. By deduction, after excluding William Gordon and Victor Valley, Darren narrows down the names that belong to these graves: Dr. Heinz Hermann, Henry Stanton, Dr. Robert Gordon, James (Gordon), and Samuel Gordon. Look at the headstones to see 5 headstones and 5 names (Figure 5). Darren needs to place the names correctly with the headstones.

Click on the headstones for clues. The puzzle can be started on any headstone and solved in any order (Figure 6).

Church

Go right to go to the church. Enter the church. Talk to Father Frederick. Learn about the Latin verse written on Samuel's headstone. It is a scripture from the bible at John 1:15-29. The scripture talks about the Lamb of God. Learn that the scripture can also be found elsewhere inside the church. Go to the column to the far bottom right.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren is reading the same scripture about the Lamb of God. He opens a secret compartment in the column. He reads a note. He is instructed to "look out for people who need help". Use the walking map to go to the crossing in the woods.

Crossing in the woods

Broken down car

Notice a broken down car at the crossing in the woods. It is the same car from the tumbledown building. Talk to Phil the driver. He is a friend of Tom's. On mentioning Ralph's name, Phil slams the car bonnet on Darren's head.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren is unconscious and wakes up imprisoned in a dark confined place. Darren thinks he is inside a coffin.

Refrigerated compartments

Look at the head end, side wall, and foot end of the coffin. They are all made a solid metal. Look twice at the ceiling. It is rusty and falling apart. Try to get the stretcher. Darren cannot get a good grip on it. Use the corkscrew on the stretcher to improvise a handle. Use the improvised handle to get out of the refrigerated compartment. Darren discovers he is in the tumbledown building. The room is dark and very hard to see. Go to the little red light next to the door. Turn on the light switch. Look at the door. It does not have a handle. Turn on the intercom. It does not work. Look on the floor. There are some recent bloodstains on it. Go right to the skeleton. Get the skull and the thigh bone. Go right to the writing desk.

Look at the desk. Get the untipped cigarettes and the small empty bottle of smelling salts. Open the drawer below. Get the chemistry book and the scalpel. Turn around. Go down to the filing cabinet.

Open the filing cabinet. Darren reads the medical records. Learn about James Gordon. Learn about Ralph's predated death certificate and fabricated cause of death by self strangulation. Go left to the refrigerated compartments.

Refrigerated compartments

Look at the lower compartment. Look at the body bag above.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren finds a dead body inside the body bag. Look at the middle compartment. It is padlocked. Darren can hear someone in there breathing.

Projector

Go left to the projector on the dissecting table. Turn on the projector. Go to the projection screen. Click on the screen to raise it to find the camera accessories. Get the colored filters. Lower the screen. Look at the skull closely (in the inventory). Darren shakes the skull to get a reel of film out. Use the film reel on the projector. Use the colored filters on the projector. Use the projector with film reel and colored filters on the screen. Darren sees an unfiltered view of a mountain on the screen (Figure 7). Otherwise, no other marking of interest can yet be seen on the screen.

There are 2 buttons on the projector. The left button controls the speed: slow (left), stop (middle), and fast (right). The right button controls the direction: reverse (left), stop (middle), and forward (right). There are 6 white circles above the buttons. The filter colors, from left to right, are: sepia, yellow, green, blue, purple, and red. Click on the white circle to select or deselect the filter color.

Select the blue filter. Play the film on slow. Try to play the film forward. If it does not work, then try to play it in reverse. At some stage the number 218 appears on the mountain face (Figure 8). Stop the film immediately (click the middle button). Deselect the blue filter.

Select the yellow and red filters together. The number changes from 218 to 2180 (Figure 9). When done correctly, Darren will acknowledge the secret marking. Go to the writing desk. Look at the metal box.

Writing desk

Click on the metal box to open it.

A cinematic cut scene is played. The box is opened using the combination 2180. Darren finds an envelope inside it. He opens the envelope to read a note. The note is from Murray to Phil.

Look on the shelf to the left of the writing desk. Use the scalpel on the cassette player. Get the wires. Go left to the intercom. Use the wires on the intercom. The light changes from red to green. Darren hears a noise coming from the refrigerated compartments.

Refrigerated compartments

Go to the refrigerated compartments. Darren hears breathing from inside the middle compartment. Get the projector. Use it on the door beside the intercom. Use the intercom. Wait for Phil to enter the room. Use the thigh bone on Phil to knock him unconscious. Search Phil. Get the shotgun and the key ring. Darren has averted Madame Fortuna's prediction about death by shooting.

Go to the refrigerated compartments. Use the key ring on the padlock to unlock it. Open the middle compartment. Darren finds Ralph inside. His tortured body is covered in dried blood. He has been drugged and cannot be woken.

Use the chemistry book on the empty bottle of smelling salts (in the inventory). Learn that the ingredients needed are deer antler and heat to crystallize the powder. Go left. Exit the cellar door to the upstairs room.

Upstairs room

Go right to get a stag's head in the middle of the room (Figure 10). Go right past the television set to the display case. Click on the case to get an Erlenmeyer flask. Turn around to exit the upstairs room. Go back to the writing desk in the cellar.

Writing desk

Use the file on the deer antlers to get powdered deer antler as a source for ammonia. Use the powdered deer antler on the Erlenmeyer flask. Use the flask with powdered deer antler on the Bunsen burner. Click on the Bunsen burner to turn the gas on. Use the flask on top of the Bunsen burner. Use the Samuel Gordon lighter on the Bunsen burner to light it. If done correctly, Darren will place the smelling salts in the bottle. Go left to go to the refrigerated compartments.

Refrigerated compartments

Look at Ralph. Use the smelling salts on Ralph to wake him up. He is terrified and disorientated. He wants his doll Mr. Bubby. Use Mr. Bubby on Ralph. Ralph runs away. Exit the cellar door to go upstairs.

Upstairs room

Use the key ring on the cellar door. Phil is now locked inside the cellar. Go to the computer desk. Look left of the monitor. Get an empty plastic bottle. Get the diskette below it. The diskette contains a space attack game. Go to the drawer to the right of the monitor. Use the key ring on the drawer to open it. Get the handgun, some ammunition, and the necklace. Look on the right hand side of the monitor. Read the post-it note. The note gives Darren a clue to the computer's password. Look under the archway to the cellar to see a label on the wall. Look at the label. It reads RGUE. There are 2 more letters to the left of the word that are illegible.

Click on the computer to start it. Type in the password MORGUE. Hit the Enter key. Darren looks at the computer and selects option 2. He then hears a click. The security on the storeroom is now released. Go to the drawer to the far right. The drawer is now open. Look at the secret compartment under the drawer. Learn of the money deposits all signed by M. Darren thinks it must be Murray again. Get the Betamax video cassette of Ralph in 1990. Go to the television set. Use the cassette on the television. Darren sees Ralph being tortured in the cellar in the video. Exit the upstairs room through the door. Darren is now outside the tumbledown building.

Click on the intercom beside the front door. The intercom is now disabled. Go left to the padlocked waste container. Use the key ring on the waste container to open it. Get the cardboard tube and the iron letter M from the waste container. Use either the handgun or the shotgun on the waste container. Darren hides the handgun, the shotgun, and the ammunition in the waste container. Use the walking map to go to Willow Creek.

Go left to cross over the bridge. Go across the village square to enter the police station. Talk to Constable Zak. Again, he is not helpful. Darren leaves in frustration. Exit to the village square.

Café

Enter the café. Talk to Denise. Use the walking map to go to Gordon's Palace Hotel.

Enter the hotel.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren confronts Murray for the kidnapping. Murray threatens to blackmail Darren if he goes to the police. Darren has a vision and then attacks Murray. Murray runs out of the hotel.

Look at the life-sized cardboard cutout of Darren. Go left to enter Murray's office.

Murray's office

Go to the large steel cabinet. Try to open it. The cabinet is locked and screwed to the floor. Darren needs the combination. Turn around to go to Murray's desk. Open the desk drawer to the right of the chair. Get the manual for the SHTB9000 security locker. The manual states that the serial number is stamped on the rear panel and the instruction (Figure 11) to call "01473/SERIAL NUMBER + the last 2 digits of your year of birth" for the combination.

Go to the window to the far left. Look at Murray's diploma on the wall beside the window. Notice that his birth date is 1942.

Use the rule on the cabinet. Darren measures 3.25 meters from the corner of the room to the cabinet. Exit right to the lobby.

Hotel room 2

Notice a red tool box outside the room past Room 2. Look at the tool box. Get a pair of pliers. Turn around to enter Room 2. Use the rule on the wall. Darren determines where the steel cabinet is behind the wall in Murray's office. Use the scalpel on the wall. Darren removes the wallpaper to discover bricks and crumbling mortar. Use the cast iron letter M on the wall to remove the mortar. Look through the hole to get the serial number of the cabinet: 8528-173. Exit to the corridor. Exit to the lobby. Go left to enter Murray's office.

Murray's office

Go to Murray's desk. Use the telephone to get the combination for the steel cabinet. Click on cabinet to get the folder with photos and negatives and the photo of Angelina at the lighthouse. Look at the folder (in the inventory). Learn about Inspector Spooner and his transfer to Willow Creek. Use the walking map to go to the castle gate.

Darren is now at the fork in the main road.

A cinematic cut scene is played. The white lady appears again. She floats by and beckons Darren to follow her to Black Mirror Castle.

Notice the menhir, an ancient ritual stone figure, to the left. Notice the nymph light to the right. Go right to enter the castle grounds through the open side gate. Notice another menhir to the left. Go left to the main entrance of the castle.

Try to enter the door to the hall. Darren hears construction workers inside. He does not want to alert them of his presence.

Go right to the frontage. Go right to the castle garden. Notice the menhirs in the garden. Go to the back door to enter the kitchen.

Kitchen

Go to the cupboard to the far right. Get the candle. Go right to enter the hall. Darren notices some workers. He needs to distract them to get past unnoticed. Go back into the kitchen. Use the pliers on the ammunition to get black powder (in the inventory). Use the black powder on the cardboard tube. Use the Samuel Gordon lighter on the candle to get a lit candle. Use the lit candle on the cardboard tube to get a cardboard tube sealed with wax. Use a cigarette on the cardboard tube sealed with wax to get a homemade firework. Exit the kitchen door to the garden. Go left to the frontage. Go left to the front entrance to the castle. Use the homemade firework on the broken lamp to the right. Darren has 2 minutes to get back to the hallway in the castle. Go right to the frontage. Go right to the castle garden. Go to the back door to enter the kitchen. Go right to enter the hall.

As Darren enters the hall, the homemade firework explodes.

A cinematic cut scene is played. The workers complain about kids playing tricks. They leave to find the kids. Darren climbs up the staircase to the second floor outside Lady Victoria's bedroom.

Go left to enter Lady Victoria's bedroom.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Darren hears Sister Antolini coming. Darren hides in an alcove until she passes by. He then enters the bedroom.

Lady Victoria's bedroom

Wake up Lady Victoria to talk to her. Learn about the origin of the Order centuries ago. Learn about the white lady. She is Mordred's wife, Maria, in search of her lost child. Learn of truth about Marcus and Mordred. Learn about the duel and the curse on all Marcus' descendents. The descendents are to complete Mordred's works and bring Mordred back to life.

Lady Victoria recognizes Darren / Adrian as the rightful heir to Black Mirror Castle. She writes the confirmation on a piece of paper. Learn about Mordred's ritual chamber where his power is the strongest. Lady Victoria asks about the vial of Darren's blood from Black Mirror 2. Lady Victoria fears that Mordred's evil spirit is now inside Adrian and the cause of Adrian's sick, violent visions.

Lady Victoria tells Adrian that he must continue to resist Mordred. In time Mordred will get stronger and stronger, while Adrian gets weaker and weaker. Learn of the ways to banish Mordred. The vessel must be destroyed. Adrian can either kill himself (as with Samuel Gordon and William Gordon) or go back to the ritual chamber to rid of Mordred. Lady Victoria talks about "it's all written in the book". She tells him that he has to follow the path which leads to the underground chamber. Learn about the 6 menhirs that point the way. Adrian has to follow the path to the very end. Lady Victoria lapses into sleep and dies.

Chapter III

Warmhill church

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian is at the Warmhill church attending the funeral service for Lady Victoria. Father Frederick acknowledges Adrian as a Gordon heir to Black Mirror Castle and last in line of the Gordon family. Dr. Winterbottom speaks to Adrian and wants to continue the therapy sessions. On exiting the church, Inspector Spooner talks to Adrian. He is jealous of Adrian's inheritance. Adrian finds a bunch of keys and the notary card of T.M.B. Dukes (in the inventory). Adrian is now on the main road beside the bridge.

Hut

Go left to go to the hut. Go to the front door. Knock on the door to talk to Ralph. Learn that he has seen the white lady. Learn that Mr. Bubby has lost an eye. Use the walking map to go to the castle gate.

Darren finds some workers waiting in front of the main castle gate. Talk to Steve and Gregory. Learn that they want to get paid for the renovation work done on the castle. They leave to go to the castle. Enter the side gate.

Go left twice. Talk to Steve. Learn that drilling holes in the walls will prevent mold from developing inside the castle. Go right to the frontage of the castle.

Castle frontage

Go right to the scaffolding. Notice a lunchbox. Get some toothpicks from the lunchbox. Turn to the left to look at the frontage. Notice the soot on the walls. Adrian wants the soot removed. Go left to the entrance of the castle.

Hall

Enter the door to go to the hall. Notice the damp-proof sheeting beside the globe in the center of the hall. Go left to enter the library.

Library

Go to the far right to use the phone. Use the notary's business card on the phone. Talk to Adrian's notary. Learn of the extent of the inheritance (or lack thereof) and the responsibilities. There is only 100 pounds in assessable cash.

Use Madame Fortuna's card on the telephone. Adrian selects the Emperor card. Learn that Adrian is gaining external power. Madame Fortuna foresees DEATH! A bear will follow Adrian at every turn and devour him. He is warned to clear the way for the bear. Exit the door to the hall.

Storage room

Go right to enter the kitchen. Go left to the cellar door. Use the bunch of keys on the cellar door to unlock it. Open the door to enter the storeroom. Look up above to see a shelf. Get the hose clips and the spray can of foam. Go to the right wall. Get the extension cable. Try to go downstairs to enter the cellar. Adrian refuses to go down there. Go left to exit to the kitchen.

Tea room

Go right to enter the hall. Go to the lower right to enter the tea room. Go to the writing desk. Look in the drawer to the left. Get a bank statement and an opened envelope from the Vatican. Look at the bank statement (in the inventory). Learn of the 6000 pounds deposit every 3 months. Learn of the withdrawals by Valentina. They are authorized by Lady Victoria. Exit the tea room to the hall.

Robert's room

Go up the stairs. Enter the door to the right. Robert's room is now used for storage. Exit the room to the corridor.

Passage

Go up the steps to enter the passage. The door is locked. Go left to enter Lady Victoria's bedroom.

Lady Victoria's bedroom

Go right to the dressing table. Look at the jewelry box. Go left to look at the machines beside the lit lamp. They are monitoring equipments used to treat Lady Victoria. Look at the painting of Maria. Click on the painting to touch it in close-up. Blood appears on her chest and turns black. Exit the room to go to the hall. Enter the kitchen. Exit the door to the garden.

Greenhouse

Go right past the strange tree to the greenhouse. Click twice on the rusty door to enter the greenhouse. Go left to the middle window. Get the wooden shaft leaning against the window. Go to the statue. Notice how dirty it is. Go right of the statue. Look on the ground to get the garden hose and the broken bucket. Look at the carpet. Lift up the carpet. Notice some loose tiles on the ground. They have not been cemented. Lift up the tiles to notice a trap door. Open the trap door. Notice an old well shaft. Look down the well shaft. Notice a case on a ledge. It is out of reach. Combine the hose clips with the wooden shaft to get a wooden shaft with hose clips (in the inventory). Combine the wooden shaft with hose clips and the iron letter M to get a grappling hook. Use the grappling hook on the case to get it. Open the case (in the inventory) to find a 10 pound note, a bottle of wine, and a notebook.

Read the notebook (in the inventory). It belongs to Henry Stanton, a former gardener. Adrian finds a picture of a horse and some notes with specific times in the notebook. Learn that Lady Victoria fails to lock up the horse on that day. Learn that the key is with old Dergham Gordon. Go back to Black Mirror Castle to enter the kitchen. Enter the hall. Go left to enter the library.

Library

Go right to look at the family tree on the wall. Look for Dergham Gordon. Learn that he is married to Lillian Gordon. Exit the library to the hall. Go up the stairs to enter Robert's room.

Robert's room

Look at the paintings. Notice Dergham Gordon's portrait painted in 1659. Look closely at part of the frame. It is loose. Get the loose piece of the frame. Look at the cavity in the frame. Notice the 7 small holes in the frame. Use the toothpicks on the frame. Use the loose piece of frame on the frame with 7 toothpicks to get a homemade key. Exit to the corridor. Go downstairs to the hall. Enter the tea room.

Tea room

Go to the horse sculpture. Look closely at it. Adrian says that it is the same horse described by Henry Stanton in his notes. Look at the marble plinth. Notice the 7 tiny holes in the base of the sculpture. Use the homemade key on the 7 holes. Notice a suspicious spot on the top of the corner of the base. Click on the suspicious spot to reveal a secret compartment. Get the cash and the Pope Innocent III letter. The letter is dated 1213 back in Marcus' time. Click on the letter (in the inventory) to read it. Learn about the sealing of the entrances to the ritual room. There are 1 large portal and 5 small portals. It is the responsibility of the Gordon family to guard the large shade portal. Click on the letter (in the inventory) again to read it. There are more writings on the back of the letter: "The menhir in the hall must be hidden." The secret compartment slides back in place and closes. Exit the tea room to the hall. Exit the castle from the main entrance.

Go left to talk to Greg. Learn that the workers have been hired by Valentina. They have also worked previously for Murray. Give Greg his pay. Learn about the various stages of renovations in the castle. Adrian hears the telephone ring.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian is in the library answering the phone. Dr. Winterbottom tells Adrian that he is late for his therapy session.

Willow Creek

Dr. Winterbottom's office

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian is in Dr. Winterbottom's office having a therapy session. Adrian has another flashback of Angelina falling down a hole. Adrian sees a constellation of 6 stars. He draws the constellation for Dr. Winterbottom. She says it resembles the Corona Borealis, except that it has 7 stars. After the therapy session, Adrian takes the drawing with him. Go left to the stairs. Exit the office to the street.

Street

A cinematic cut scene is played. Constable Zak talks to Adrian. Learn that there has been a death at the castle. Inspector Spooner wants Adrian to see him at the castle. Adrian and Constable Zak go to the castle together. Constable Zak shows Adrian the accident site. A stone skull has fallen from above the entrance and has killed Gregory.

Look at the skull. Notice lots of blood and mildew at the accident site. Look right at the broken lamp. Get the industrial cleaner and brush from the base of the lamp. Go left to talk to Steve. He believes the castle is jinxed. Steve resigns. Enter the castle to the hall.

Hall

A cinematic cut scene is played. Inspector Spooner taunts Adrian again about his new riches and good fortune. Mordred takes over Adrian's body and threatens Inspector Spooner. He tells Inspector Spooner to call him Sir Adrian from now on. He then kicks Inspector Spooner out, and a terrified Inspector Spooner runs for his life. Adrian / Mordred rants that he is the last of the weakling Marcus line and will be the first in the Mordred line. Adrian exits the castle to the front entrance.

Castle gate

Go right twice to go to the castle gate. Go left to the letterbox to get the mail. Get the letters and a newspaper. Learn that Murray is charging 100 pounds a day until the return of the hotel key. Adrian now owes Murray 500 pounds. Look at the newspaper (in the inventory). Notice Adrian's picture taken by the Polaroid. The newspaper states that Adrian is the heir and new lord of the castle.

Open the letter (in the inventory). It contains a cryptic message. Adrian reads the message about "the guardian's third virtue is mercifulness". The message concludes with the words "and every call for help be heard and find a sea of answers". Use the walking map to go to Gordon's Palace Hotel. Enter to the lobby.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian talks to Murray. Learn of Adrian's plan to get tough with Murray about copyright use of the name Gordon. Mordred takes over Adrian's body. Adrian rants and berates Murray with evil threats. Look in the inventory. Learn that the key to room 2 is now gone. Adrian exits the hotel. He remembers Lady Victoria's warning and fears what has happened to Samuel Gordon is now happening to him. Use the walking map to go to the castle gate.

Starting at the castle gate, Adrian needs to search for the 6 menhirs and mark them on the walking map.

Menhirs

Go to the left of the main gate. Use the walking map on the 1st menhir. Enter the side gate to the castle entrance. Use the walking map on the 2nd menhir to the left. Enter the castle to the hall. Use the walking map on the 3rd menhir that is the foundation stone in the center of the room. Exit the hall. Go right twice to enter the garden. Use the walking map on the 4th menhir by the ladder. Go to the tree. Use the walking map on the 5th menhir. Go right to the greenhouse. Enter the greenhouse. Look at the statue. Notice how dirty it is. Use the industrial cleaner and brush on the marble statue. Learn that the marble is fake. The statue is instead sculpted only from granite and painted. Use the walking map on the 6th menhir. Use the pencil (in the inventory) on the walking map to view the crosses formed by the positions of the menhirs.

Connect the crosses on the walking map (Figure 12). Start at the top left cross. Connect to the top right cross. This will intersect with the top middle cross. Go back to the top left cross. Connect each successive cross in an anti-clockwise direction. Finish up at the top right cross.

Start on the top middle cross. Connect to the top left cross. Continue on in a straight line to reach the Warmhill church. Release the pencil.

Start again on the top middle cross. Connect to the bottom right cross. Continue on in a straight line to reach the academy ruins. Release the pencil.

Use the walking map to go to the crossing in the woods.

Lighthouse

Go right at the crossing in the woods to take the gravel path. Go right along the gravel path past the tumbledown building to the lighthouse. Exit up to the academy ruins.

Notice the entrance to the portal is now blocked. Adrian already knows of the portal from Black Mirror II. Adrian marks a cross on the map for the portal's location. Use the pencil (in the inventory) on the walking map to see the cross. Notice Ralph's shed has been destroyed. Use the walking map to go to Warmhill church. Enter the church.

Talk to Father Frederick. Show Father Frederick the letter from Pope Innocent III. Learn of its immense value. Learn of the portal beneath the church which has been sealed. Learn about Valentina being sent by the Diocese. Exit the church. Go right. Enter the gate to go to the priest's house.

Notice an old door beside the gate. Get the sheet of glass from the door. Use the walking map to go to Gordon's Palace Hotel.

Go right to go along the cobbled path leading past the flagpole. Notice Bobby wading in the river. Talk to Bobby. He is looking for mussels with pearls to make a gift for Denise. Give Bobby the necklace from the tumbledown building. Bobby runs off leaving his waders on the bench. Get the waders from the bench. Notice they have a large hole in them. Go to the jetty. Look across the river. Notice the menhirs in the river. Adrian thinks that there must be a portal nearby. Turn around to look at the picture behind the light. Learn of the boys' disappearance locally. Use the walking map to go to Willow Creek.

Willow Creek

Constable Zak's bicycle is still resting against the lamppost outside Dr. Winterbottom's house. Look at the bicycle. Get the patch repair kit. Use the patch repair kit with the waders (in the inventory) to get the patched waders. Cross over the bridge to go to the village square. Enter the police station.

Police station

Talk to Zak. Exhaust all dialog boxes. Ask about Inspector Spooner and Matt. Learn that their whereabouts are unknown. Exit the police station to the village square. Enter the café.

Café

Go to the counter. Look at the photos behind the counter. Talk to Edward. He is now the manager of the café. Learn about the Gordon family. Use the walking map to go to Gordon's Palace Hotel.

Gordon's Palace Hotel

River

Go right to take the path to the river. Right click on the patched waders (in the inventory) to wear them. Go right to the menhirs. Adrian notices a dark spot underwater. Use the piece of glass from the church on the broken bucket to get a bucket with glass bottom. Use the bucket with glass bottom on the dark spot. Adrian sees some steps covered in silt. It is another portal. Go left to exit to the hotel. Adrian removes the waders and leaves them on the bench for Bobby. Go left to the fountain. Use the empty plastic bottle on the fountain at the hotel to get a filled bottle.

Portals

Start at the top center cross. Connect to the bottom left cross. Continue on in a straight line to reach the White Wood. Release the pencil.

Start again at the top center cross. Connect to the top right cross. Continue on in a straight line to reach the eastern marsh or the Deempmire region. Release the pencil.

Look at the map (in the inventory). Click the pencil on the map to see the location of the 5 small portals (Figure 13).

Go right to go to the lighthouse. Go halfway up the road to the lighthouse. Go left to take the beaten track just past the end of the barbed wire fence. Look around the marsh. Get the metal detector. Go left to exit the beaten track. Exit the gravel path. Go left at the crossing in the woods to take the path.

White Wood

Bear trap

Read the warning signs on the large gnarled tree. Look to the left on the path to get a branch. Go forward to notice a bear trap on the path. (Hint: Do not go left and down the path without a working metal detector.)

Look at the metal detector (in the inventory). The metal detector is not working. It needs a new battery and electronics. Use the walking map to go to the tumbledown building.

Tumbledown building

Look at the car bonnet. It is locked. Use the key ring on the car door to release the hood. Adrian finds another glow-in-the-dark sticker. Go to the front of the car to get the battery. Enter the upstairs room of the tumbledown building.

Upstairs room

Look at the electrical junk in front of the television. Get the transistor radio. Go left to enter the cellar.

Cellar

Look at the autopsy table. Phil is dead. The cellar door has been unlocked. Use the walking map to go to the crossing in the woods. Go left at the crossing in the woods to take the path.

White Wood

Bear trap

Go up to the bear trap. Use the car battery on the metal detector to get metal detector with battery. Use the transistor radio on the metal detector with battery to get a working metal detector. Use the metal detector on the bear trap. Go left to follow the path. Adrian lays down the glow-in-the-dark stickers where the traps are. Adrian has averted Madame Fortuna's prediction about death by being devoured by a bear.

Stone circle

Notice a circle of menhirs surrounding a large flat rock in the middle. Look at the gap on the left end of the large flat rock. Notice a crevice under the rock. Use the long branch on the crevice.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Bats fly out of the crevice and startle Adrian. Adrian deduces that there is a cave or portal beneath the rock. Use the walking map to go to the castle hall.

Exit the hall to go to the front entrance where Steve and Greg were working. Go left to notice Steve's hammer drill (near the cement mixer). Notice the gas tank is empty. Get the canister beside the hammer drill. Use the walking map to go to the tumbledown building.

Go to the car. Use the garden hose on the tank cap of the car. Adrian gets a half full petrol can. Use the walking map to go to the castle hall.

Exit the hall to go to the front entrance. Get the hammer drill. Adrian fills the hammer drill with petrol. Use the walking map to go to the stone circle in the woods.

Go to the rock. Use the hammer drill on the rock.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian drills holes into the rock. After hours of drilling, the drill runs out of petrol. It is now night and very cold. Adrian deduces that ice can break rocks apart. Use the plastic bottle full of water on the holes. Use the can of construction foam on the holes to seal the water in.

Bobby is sitting by the main castle gate. He looks sad. Talk to Bobby. Learn that he has been beaten by Tom and thrown out. Learn that Inspector Spooner refuses to help him.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Tom, who is very drunk, is in a quarrel with Inspector Spooner and Denise in front of the Three Kegs Inn. They speak of the necklace that Bobby his given to Denise. Adrian joins in the quarrel. Tom punches Adrian in the face.

Chapter IV

Willow Creek

Dr. Winterbottom's office

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian is having another therapy session with Dr. Winterbottom. Adrian has flashbacks of Angelina down the hole again. He distinctly remembers seeing her evil looking face in a mirror. The telephone rings. Dr. Winterbottom answers it. Constable Zak wants Adrian to talk to Inspector Spooner in the café. Learn that Phil's body has been found. Dr. Winterbottom advises Adrian to hire a butler. Go left to exit down the stairs. Cross the bridge to go to the telephone box.

Telephone box

Use the fortune teller's card on the telephone. Madame Fortuna asks Darren to select a card. Darren selects the Moon card. Madame Fortuna foresees DEATH! She says, "You shatter! Stay away from heights!" Exit the telephone box to the village square. Go to the café. Denise rushes past Adrian in a hurry. Enter the café.

Café

Talk to Inspector Spooner. He half offers an apology to Adrian. He talks about Tom and the threat to kill Adrian. He asks Adrian to take him to the tumbledown building to look for Phil's body.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian takes Inspector Spooner to the tumbledown building.

Tumbledown building

Inspector Spooner says the door is locked. Use the key ring to open the door. Inspector Spooner takes the keys as evidence. Enter to the upstairs room. Look for the torture videos in the cupboard. Learn that the videos have disappeared. Go to the video player. Play the video that is still in the player. Inspector Spooner is sickened by the video. Go left to enter the cellar.

Cellar

Phil's body has disappeared. Go to the chilled compartment with corpse. The body provides an alibi for Adrian. Inspector Spooner is starting to believe in Adrian's innocence. Exit the cellar to the upstairs room.

Upstairs room

Tom is seen in the room. He flees. Inspector Spooner takes chase after him. Use the walking map to go to the stone circle in the woods.

Stone circle

Notice that the rock has now cracked open. Look at the rock. Notice a hole with steps leading down. Adrian climbs down the steps to a deep cavern. Look at the chasm. Notice a portal on the other side of a deep chasm. There is no way across. Use the walking map to go to the castle gate. Enter the side gate.

Garden

Go up to go to the castle garden. Look on the wall. Notice a folding ladder against the wall. Get the ladder.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian goes back to the chasm. He places the ladder over the chasm.

Stone circle

Go right to cross over the chasm. Look to the left of the portal. Darren finds a stone tablet. Look at the writings on the tablet. Use the Polaroid camera on the tablet to get a photo of hieroglyphics. Look at the black ball holder beside the tablet. Learn of its purpose. Look at the portal. Use the walking map to go back to Willow Creek. Go right to enter Dr. Winterbottom's office.

Willow Creek

Dr. Winterbottom's office

Talk to Dr. Winterbottom. Dr. Winterbottom gives Adrian a book about hieroglyphics. Use the picture of hieroglyphics on the book of hieroglyphics. The picture cannot be deciphered. Learn about the note from Edward on the back page of the book. Exit down the stairs. Go right to enter the newly opened museum next door.

Museum

A young Russian couple is in the museum. Talk to Svetlana and Yuri. They are no help. Try to talk to the security guard. He is no help. Notice some flyers on the wall to the left of the security guard. Look at the flyers. Learn that they are all made by Edward. Edward has knowledge in history and archaeology. Exit the museum.

Café

Go left to cross over the bridge. Go across the village square to enter the café. Talk to Edward. Learn that Denise is ill with a virus and their relationship has soured. Learn that the hieroglyphics are Druidic and depict a burial ritual. The black balls are gifts to the priests and can be found under a burial mound. Learn that there are other burial mounds around nearby.

Learn that Edward is looking for another job. Denise's father is leaving the café. Adrian asks Edward to come to the castle tomorrow for an interview. Exit the café to the village square. Go left to enter the police station.

Police station

Talk to Inspector Spooner. Learn that Tom has escaped. Learn that Murray has changed his statement to provide an alibi for Adrian over the murder of Amanda. Learn that Inspector Spooner wants to solve all the murder cases to get back to the city. He asks Adrian for help. Talk to Constable Zak. He agrees to accompany Adrian to Amanda's apartment to look for clues. Adrian and Constable Zak go to the apartment.

Amanda Valley's apartment

Go right to the stove. Get the small piece of coal on the floor. Go left to look at the writing desk. Adrian reads the newspaper clippings. Learn about Victor Sebastian Valley's murder. Look on the floor at the base of the stairs. Notice an empty notepad. Get a bare piece of paper. Look at the piece of paper (in the inventory). Notice a weak imprint on it. Use the piece of coal on the bare piece of paper to read the message. Learn it is the same note from the missing robe in Ralph's shack.

Go to the bookcase behind the writing desk to open it. Get a folder from a university titled "Miss Valley seminar work". Read the seminar note (in the inventory). Learn of the 3 key words needed to locate the burial mound.

Adrian needs to correctly underline the 3 key words (or groups of key words) in the seminar note to locate the burial mound (Figure 14). When correctly done, Adrian will acknowledge the correct information.

(Note: There is a glitch in this puzzle. The correct key words are: "sector i3", "animal bones", and "marsh". However, only the letters "mar" or "sh" of the keyword but not the entire key word "marsh" can be underlined. Further, unlike the other key words, there is no acknowledgement to the key word "sector i3" when it is underlined. The glitch may be caused by improper localization of the game to English. When Adrian fails to identify the words after several attempts, a cheat lever will appear. Click on the lever to skip the puzzle.)

Go to a pile of stones in the center. Get the piece of paper wedged between the stones. It is an envelope addressed to Adrian. Open the letter (in the inventory) to read a cryptic message. Go right to the beaten track. Some small animal bones lay along the path. Look at the menhir to the right of the burial mound. Go to the left of the entrance to get some dry twigs. Go to the entrance of the mound.

Notice a circle on the left wall at the entrance. Look at the hieroglyphics above the entrance. Enter the burial mound. Look inside the burial mound. Adrian says, "Mordred would know." Learn that Adrian needs to stop taking his medication so that he can get more visions from Mordred. Use the walking map to go to Willow Creek.

Dr. Winterbottom's office

Go right to enter Dr. Winterbottom's office. Talk to Dr. Winterbottom. Learn that Valerian tea or St John's Wort tea impedes the effect of Adrian's medication. Learn that the caffeine in coffee with magnesium absorbs his medication. Exit the office down the stairs. Cross the bridge to enter the café.

Café

Talk to Edward. Get a small packet of Columbian coffee. Exit to the village square. Enter the old fashioned shop.

Talk to Abaya. Adrian pretends he has heartburn. Get antacid from Abaya. Learn that the 2 types of tea which Adrian needs are not available for 2 days. Use the walking map to go to the castle greenhouse.

Enter the greenhouse. Go left to the middle window. Look at the plants on the ground. Get the Tumulus Valerian. Exit the greenhouse. Go left to the castle.

Go left to enter the kitchen door. Look right. Get the pot on the stove. Adrian adds some water to the pot. Go right to enter the hall.

Hall

Go to the top of the globe. Look right on the floor to notice a roll of damp proof sheeting. Get the sheeting. Use the walking map to go to the eastern marsh.

Eastern marsh

Burial mound

Go right to the beaten track. Enter the burial mound. Look left on the ground. Get some stones. Adrian places the stones to make a fireplace in the middle of the cave. Use dry twigs on the fireplace. Use the Samuel Gordon lighter on the fireplace. Use pot on the fireplace. Use Valerian tea leaves on the fireplace but not the pot. The thick smoke is blown outside. Exit the burial mound. Use the roll of damp proof sheeting to cover the entrance. Enter the burial mound to go to the fireplace. Use Valerian tea leaves on the fireplace. The thick smoke is now kept inside. Use antacid on the pot. Use coffee on the pot. Click on the pot. Drink the mixture in the pot.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian has a vision of a Druidic burial. He sees where a black ball is placed in the rock wall. Look at the left wall near the entrance. Notice some black mold on the wall. Adrian gets the black ball. He thanks Mordred for helping. Use the walking map to go to the stone circle in the woods.

Stone Circle

Portals

Go left to the hole in the rock. Climb down the steps. Go right to the portal. Use the black ball on the holder. The portal glows. Enter the portal. The portal is now inactive. Notice that there is no black ball in the holder.

Adrian recognizes the place as the academy portal from Black Mirror II. Look to the right. Notice Louis' corpse. Get the letter from Louis' corpse. Read the letter (in the inventory). It is addressed to Louis from Angelina. Learn about all the murders. The letter will clear Adrian of the murders.

Go to the buried staircase. Click twice on the staircase to get a close-up view of the stairs. Notice some black material belonging to the Order. The crushed body cannot be freed. Notice the gaps in the rocks. It is too dark to see down the gaps. Use the Polaroid camera on the gaps. Look at the picture to see a black ball held by a dead person. Adrian says that he needs a stick to move the ball. Go to Louis' corpse. Adrian gets Louis' arm. Use Louis' arm on the gap to the right to move the ball. Go to the gap to the left to get the black ball. Use the black ball on the holder in front of the portal. The portal glows. Enter the portal. Adrian is now in the ritual chamber.

Ritual chamber

Go left to look at the wall of skulls. Go left to look at the throne. Notice the 5 ball holders to the left of the throne. There is only 1 black ball. Notice Mordred's book on the central stand. Click on the book. Mordred tries to take over Adrian's body. Adrian falls to the ground. Get up. Click on the book again.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Mordred takes over and possesses Adrian's body. Mordred sits on the throne before taking the black ball from the holder. Mordred places the ball on another holder to open the portal to the abyss. Mordred takes the black ball from the holder and exits to the woods. The portal is now deactivated. Maria appears and demands to know what has happened to their son Damien. She learns that Damien is dead. Adrian collapses to the ground unconscious.

Chapter V

Black Mirror Castle

Valentina's room

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian wakes up in Valentina's room. He goes to the water basin to wash his face. His eyes have blackened, and his face has changed.

Go to the far left. Look at the window. Get the rope hanging from the window. Look on the table to get the note. Read the note (in the inventory). The note reads "The Guardian's highest virtue is faith. As much in himself as in God." Look at Mordred's book on the table. The pages are empty.

Adrian takes his medication. He remembers that he needs to drop his blood on the book to see the writings. Look on the floor under the chair to get some glass chards. Adrian cuts himself to spill his blood on the book. Unexpectedly, only a summoning from Mordred appears. Adrian contemplates suicide, like the rest of the Gordon family.

Castle tower

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian is about to jump off the castle tower. Valentina calls out to stop him. She suggests that there is another way out. She wants Adrian to come down to meet her at the castle entrance. Adrian has averted Madame Fortuna's prediction about death by falling from heights.

Castle entrance

Adrian meets Valentina at the castle entrance. Talk to Valentina. Learn that she is from the Vatican to monitor apostolic visitations or miracles. Learn that she is here to secure the Gordon inheritance. The Gordon inheritance is to guard the Black Mirror which acts as a great portal. The Black Mirror is the portal that Adrian is looking for. Learn that only the descendants from Marcus Gordon can resist Mordred.

Valentina gives Adrian the Book of the Guardians. Adrian accepts the guardianship. She tells Adrian that the solution is to go to the church for exorcism.

Warmhill church

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian and Valentina go to the Warmhill church. Talk to Father Frederick. Learn that Adrian needs a personal item of Mordred's. Learn about Mordred's sins. Adrian exits the side door of the church. Use the walking map to go to the castle gate.

Edward is waiting for Adrian at the castle gate. Talk to Edward. Adrian gives to Edward Angelina's letter to give to Inspector Spooner. Enter the side gate to go to the castle entrance.

Valentina's room

Enter the door to the hall. Go right to go up the stairs. Enter the passage to Valentina's room. Go to the desk. Get Mordred's book. Read the Book of the Guardians (in the inventory). Learn about Marcus' account of Maria's death that is Mordred's sins. Learn about Marcus's killing of Mordred. Exit the room. Go down stairs to the hall. Go left to enter the library.

Library

Go right to the telephone. Use Madame Fortuna's card on the telephone. Madame Fortuna asks Darren to select a card. Adrian selects the Hierophant card. Learn that it denotes a shaman, pope, or high priest. Madame Fortuna foresees DEATH! She then drops her cards. Use the walking map to go to Warmhill church.

Enter the church through the side door to the right. Talk to Father Frederick. Give him Mordred's book. Tell him about Mordred killing Maria with a sword.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Father Frederick performs the exorcism. Valentina records the events. Mordred attacks Father Frederick as a black mist. Father Frederick is thrown across the room. He is killed. Father Frederick has fulfilled Madame Fortuna's prediction about death.

Chapter VI

Black Mirror Castle

Library

A cinematic cut scene is played. Edward helps Valentina bring Adrian back after the exorcism. Adrian is asleep at Black Mirror Castle.

You are now playing as Valentina. Read the Gordon file (in the inventory). Learn of the last transfer of guardianship in 1923 to Lady Victoria. Learn of Marcus' transcript which reads "The entrance to the shade portal is sealed with an altar. The underground chapel is consecrated. This prevents the shades from entering the catacombs." Go to the telephone. Use the telephone to talk to the Archbishop. Tell the Archbishop about the failed exorcism and Father Frederick's death. Learn that the demon must be forced back by the Guardian into the Black Mirror which is somewhere in the catacombs. He is attracted to the Black Mirror. The problem is that Adrian, the Guardian, and Mordred, the demon, share the same body.

Go left to the columns between the bookcases. Use the matches on the columns. Notice the flame flicker. There is a draft. Click on the columns to remove a metal cover. Notice a strangely shaped keyhole. Exit to the hall. Go up the stairs to enter Lady Victoria's bedroom.

Lady Victoria's bedroom

Go to the machines. Get the syringe with adrenaline. Go right to the dressing table. Get the jewelry box. Exit the bedroom.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian has woken up and is standing outside the bedroom. Adrian talks to Valentina. Valentina says that they have to go back to the Black Mirror. Give the jewelry box to Adrian to open it. There is no key inside it. Adrian jumps on it to smash it open. Valentina gets the sword handle.

Exit to the hall.

Library

Enter the library. Go to the columns. Use the sword hilt on the strangely shaped hole. The sword hilt fits perfectly. Look at the sword handle (in the inventory). Notice the 4 rubies on it. Learn that a ruby is still missing on the sword handle.

Change to play as Adrian. Exit to the hall. Enter the library. Talk to Valentina. Learn about the ritual chamber. Learn that the Black Mirror absorbs evil souls but also reflects the soul. Evil can come out of the Black Mirror which is a gateway to hell. Learn that Valentina is the person sending the messages. They are a test to see if Adrian is pure of heart and qualifies to be a Guardian. Adrian remembers seeing rubies on Angelina's bracelet in Black Mirror II. The bracelet is now in the police evidence locker.

Change to play as Valentina. Give the sword handle to Adrian.

Change to play as Adrian. Use Madame Fortuna's card on the telephone. Madame Fortuna asks Darren to select a card. Adrian selects the Death card. Learn that it means releasing oneself from old ties. She predicts that Adrian is destined to experience a transformation. Madame Fortuna foresees DEATH! Learn that Madame Fortuna predicts death by lightning, death by suffocation in a deluge, and death being devoured by darkness. Madame Fortuna explains that she has mixed several packs of tarot cards together, hence the multiple death cards. She apologizes to Adrian and hangs up. Use the walking map to go to the castle gate.

Castle gate

Rain is teeming down. Look left to the letter box. Get the sunglasses sent by Edward. Use the walking map to go to Warmhill church.

Hut

Exit the churchyard to go into the woods. Go left at the bridge to go to the hut. The door has been broken with an axe. Enter the shack. Learn that Tom has been in the hut. Adrian utters, "There are some things you just don't want to see." Adrian turns around and exits to the bridge. Go right thrice to reach the fork in the road. Go to the road to Black Mirror Castle. Adrian hears a man singing "Rain, rain, go away..." and thinks it may be Ralph. Use the walking map to go to Willow Creek.

Willow Creek

Café

Go right to cross over the bridge. Go to the café across the village square. It is closed for business. Go left to enter the police station.

Police station

Talk to Inspector Spooner. The case has been closed. Angelina's letter proves Adrian's innocence. Adrian informs Inspector Spooner of Tom's whereabouts at the shack. Get the bracelet back from Constable Zak.

Talk to Constable Zak. Learn about Edward's resignation at the café and the argument between Edward and Denise. Use the walking map to go to the castle hall.

Black Mirror Castle

Valentina's room

Exit the hall. Go up the stairs to enter Valentina's room in the passage. Go to the wardrobe. Open it to get a grave candle and a pair of pliers. Use the pliers on the bracelet to get a ruby (in the inventory). Use the ruby on the sword handle. Exit the room. Exit to the hall. Enter the library.

Library

Go to the columns. Use the sword handle on the strangely shaped hole. A spiral staircase is revealed. Adrian and Valentina exit to the sewers.

Sewers

Look at the hefty chain hanging into the water. Look at the symbols on the water basin and the 4 columns. The symbols on the columns are: house and jar, pitchfork and flower, bird and head, fish and hand. Look at the water basin. Learn that it is connected to the sewer. Talk to Valentina. Learn that the hieroglyphics are ancient Pictish glyphs. Exit the sewers up the spiral staircase to the library.

Storage room

Exit the library to enter the hall. Go right to enter the kitchen. Go left to enter the cellar door. Go right to the bucket on the far wall. Get a handful of gritting salt. Look to the right on the wall. Notice a power socket above the floor. Use the extension cable on the power socket. Click on the extension cable to take hold of its loose end. Use the loose end on the stairs to the cellar. Adrian drops the loose end of the cable into the cellar. Use the Samuel Gordon lighter on the grave candle to get light. Go down the steps to enter the cellar.

Cellar

Use the extension cable on the construction light. The construction light is on the floor to the right. The cellar is now lit. Go right to the well. Click on the well. Adrian calls out to Valentina. Look at the chain on the well. Go right to look at the water pump. Click on the water pump to open it. Get the chain from the well. Use the chain on the water pump to make a winch.

Look to the right of the water pump. Get the wire rope. Use the rope on the water pump to connect the circuit. Notice a power connection in front of the pump. Look left to notice a grate on the floor in front of the well. Use the power connection on the grate to connect the circuit. Look left to notice some puddles beside the well. Go to the puddle. Use the gritting salt on the puddle. Look to the left. Notice a red 3-phase power cable hanging from the ceiling. Use the power cable on the puddles to complete the circuit.

Look right to see a large lever on the wall beside the well. Go to the lever. Pull the lever to get power. Go to the right of the water pump. Look at the controls. Click on the controls to turn off the electricity. Adrian has averted Madame Fortuna's prediction about death by a lightning bolt.

A cinematic cut scene is played. The cage is lifted up from the sewers to the cellar. Use the rope (in the inventory) on the well to secure it to the column. Go left to exit the cellar to the library. Enter the library.

Sewers

Enter the spiral staircase to go down to the sewers. The rope tied to the well is inside the suspended cage. Talk to Valentina. Learn of Adrian's plan with the rope and the cage.

Change to play as Valentina. Go down the spiral staircase to the cellar. Go to the well to wait for Adrian to pull the rope.

Change to play as Adrian. (Hint: Save your game here.) Enter the cage. Pull the rope. Valentina drops the cage to the water.

(Note: This puzzle is timed and must be solved within 90 seconds.)

Adrian needs to match the outer anchoring symbol with its correct counterpart inside the large circle. After he selects the matching inner symbol, it will depress. Adrian then has to select a directional arrow, either right or left, to bring up a new symbol. Repeat the process for all 4 symbols (Figure 15-18).

When done correctly, Adrian will drop down to the catacombs below. Valentina climbs down the chain to join Adrian. Adrian has averted Madame Fortuna's prediction about death by suffocation in a deluge.

Catacombs

Hieroglyphics chamber

Adrian and Valentina are now underground in a huge cavern with a giant statue. They are in the catacombs beneath the castle. Look at the relief on the wall to the left of the giant headless statue. Notice the hieroglyphics with a strange death's head and a huge mouth. Notice a dish at the foot of the statue. Click on the dish twice to get a close-up view of an offering dish. It is some sort of weighing mechanism. Hear the sound of moving chains. Go to the far left. Look at the stone door. It is made of solid iron and has 6 locks. Look at the 6 chains hanging from the ceiling to the floor. Notice each chain has a capsule attached to it. Look at the capsule nearest to the floor. Notice a small door on the capsule. Open the capsule to get a gold key. Use the gold key on the door with the 6 locks. The key fits but does not work.

Go to the far left sarcophagus. Click on the sarcophagus twice to open it. Get an arrowhead. Look at the sarcophagus beside it. Click on the sarcophagus twice to open it. Get a sign which looks like a warrior shield. Look on the ground. Notice a rusty broken sword next to the sarcophagus. Get the sword.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Mordred has been awoken. He speaks to Adrian. Valentina queries Adrian what has happened to him.

Go right to the sarcophagus to the right of the statue. Click on the sarcophagus twice to open it. Get a piece of jewelry which looks like a fish. Click on the end sarcophagus twice to open it. It is empty.

Go left to the edge of the platform opposite the statue. Notice a small boat on the ground. Get the boat. Go right to the stone door. Notice a hole in the left hand side of the arch. Look in the hole to get a map. Go through the stone door. Valentina calls Adrian back. A message written in Latin on the doorway reads "Beware Guardians of the shades, they will take possession of your soul as soon as you venture in the dark." Look at the map (in the inventory). The map shows the number of doors that need to be opened to give light to that room (Figure 19).

Go right to click on the switch near room 10. Both room 8 and room 10 are now dark. Go right to enter room 10.

Change to play as Valentina. Go from room 11 to room 1. Click on the switch beside the stone door. The stone door is now closed. Click on the switch outside room 3. Room 1 is now lit. Go down to enter room 2.

Labyrinth room 2

Click on the switch near room 1. Room 1 is now dark. Click on the switch outside room 4. Room 2 is now lit. Room 4 is now dark. Valentina is in room 2. Adrian is in room 4.

Labyrinth room 4

Change to play as Adrian. Click on the switch outside room 3. Room 3 is now lit. The shade goes from room 3 to room 1. Room 2, room 3, and room 4 are now lit. Go up to enter room 3.

Labyrinth room 3

Go left to click on the switch near room 1. The shade is now trapped in room 1. Look at the niche in the room. Get the decorated bowl. Go right to click on the switch near room 6.

Change to play as Valentina. Go from room 2 to room 8. Click on the switch near room 7. Go up to enter room 7. Click on the switch near room 6. Room 7 is now lit.

Valentina is now in room 7.

Change to play as Adrian. Go right to enter room 6 from room 3. Go right to click on the switch near room 9. Room 2, room 3, room 4, room 6, room 7, room 10, and room 11 are lit (Figure 23). Go left to enter room 3.

Change to play as Valentina. Go from room 4 to room 7. Adrian and Valencia are both in room 7.

Change to play as Adrian. Click on the switch near room 6. Go right to click on the switch near room 9. Do not enter room 9 yet!

Labyrinth room 9

Go from room 7 to room 8. Go right to enter room 10. Go right to click on the switch near room 11. Go up to click on the switch near room 9. The shade moves from room 9 to room 6. Enter room 9.

Change to play as Valentina. Go to room 9. Adrian and Valencia are both in room 9.

Change to play as Adrian. Open the sarcophagus in the room. Get the staff. Go from room 9 to room 1.

Change to play as Valentina. Go from room 9 to room 1. Adrian and Valencia are both in room 1.

Go left to exit the stone door. Adrian and Valencia are back in the statue room. Adrian has averted Madame Fortuna's prediction about death by darkness.

Hieroglyphics chamber

Go left to the relief beside the statue. Look at the hieroglyphics. There are 3 distinct parts: the head, the middle, and the bottom. Look at the head part. Learn that it represents the Black Mirror. It is symbolic of death. Look at the middle part. There are carvings of 7 people in the relief: 3 are lying down and 4 are standing. They represent people from all walks of life. Those who are lying down represent people in power, such as the king and the warrior. They are unpopular. Those are standing represent common people, such as the priest, the beggar, the hunter and the peasant. Look at the bottom part. There are 7 panels. Each panel represents each of the 7 people in the middle part.

Change to play as Adrian. Click on the dish below the statue to get a close-up view. Notice the 7 collected items from the statue room and labyrinth. They are placed in front of the offering dish.

Adrian needs to pick out 4 items with the correct total weight to put in the offering dish to activate it. Use the arrowhead, the bowl, the staff, and the fish on the dish. The mechanism depresses.

A cinematic cut scene is played. All of the capsules and chains align.

Go to the far left capsule. Look at the capsule to get the 6 gold keys. Use the 6 keys on the left stone door. Exit the statue room into a large cavern with a gaping chasm.

Look at the headless statues, the chasm, and the bridge. Go left to cross over the bridge. Exit through the colonnade. Adrian and Valentina are now in a chapel.

Chapel

A cinematic cut scene is played. Valentina is talking to Adrian. Learn that the chapel is built by both Marcus and Mordred.

Talk to Valentina. Go to the left sarcophagus. Click on the left sarcophagus to open it. Look inside it. The sarcophagus belongs to Mordred. Go to the right sarcophagus. Click on the right sarcophagus to open it. Look inside it. Maria's remains are in it. Adrian gets the sword tip from Maria's remains. Go left to the altar.

Altar

Valentina follows. Look at the altar. Valentina reads the Latin inscription on the altar: "At sunrise the king sent his warriors into battle against the darkness." Look at the hieroglyphics on the altar. They are connected to the hieroglyphics on the relief in the statue room.

Adrian needs to arrange the hieroglyphics in the correct sequence, starting from the far left and ending at the far right. From the inscription, the starting hieroglyphic is the sun or sunrise and the finishing hieroglyphic is the moon or darkness. The remaining hieroglyphics coincide with the hieroglyphics on the relief. Select the hieroglyphics in the correct sequence from left to right: sun, crown, bread, house, boat, shield, goblet, axe, head, sword, arrow, shield, bow, moon (Figure 24).

A cinematic cut scene is played. The pedestal and altar drop to reveal steps leading to a secret passage.

Go down the steps to enter the secret passage. Adrian and Valentina are now out of the catacombs.

Black Mirror

Mordred's alchemy laboratory

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian and Valentina are now in Mordred's alchemy laboratory. Adrian tells Valentina that he faintly remembers this place as a child. Adrian recalls seeing Angelina fall into a hole, who is later rescued by Bates the butler. Adrian recalls that the Black Mirror is behind the stone door.

Look at the old swords in front of the stone door.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian is possessed by Mordred. His eyes blacken. He then swings the sword like a madman. Valentina is afraid. She scolds Adrian. She orders him not to pick up any more swords.

Talk to Valentina. Learn about the alchemists. Adrian asks Valentina for her dagger. Only the blood from a male member of the Gordon family can open the stone door.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian cuts his finger to draw blood. He then goes to the stone door and places his hand on the door. The door opens. Enter the Black Mirror room.

Black Mirror room

A cinematic cut scene is played. Adrian and Valentina look in the mirror. Mordred's shade is reflected between them. Valentina warns Adrian, "Don't touch the mirror, ever!" It is the shade of Mordred's soul that is inside Adrian. Mordred's real soul is inside the mirror. Mordred's shade must join his soul in the mirror to be destroyed.

Writings now appear in Mordred's book. Mordred writes that it is possible for the soul in the mirror to leave the mirror if its shade is bound in the world. Learn about Mordred's attempt to bring King Armundor's soul out of the mirror to place it in Damien's body. Learn about Armundor's bones on the altar. Armundor's shade is now bound in Mordred's own bones. Learn that Mordred has killed Damien so to release his soul but leave an empty body.

Adrian finally learns the truth behind the Gordon curse. Mordred has lured Adrian to the mirror so that Mordred's soul that is in the mirror can come out and join the shade that is already in Adrian's body.

You are now playing as Valentina. Go to the Black Mirror to look at it.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Valentina's plan is to send Mordred's shade back to the mirror. Valentina asks Adrian to read the Book of the Guardians to learn about the shades. Learn that the shades are born in death behind the mirror. Learn that light from a green flame unsettles them and drives them to darkness. This explains why the lights are green in the labyrinth.

Altar

Look at the altar.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Mordred's soul is in the mirror. If Adrian dies, Mordred's soul will take over Adrian's body.

Mordred's shade must first be driven out of Adrian's body. It is imperative that Mordred's actual soul cannot leave the mirror and Adrian's soul not leave his own body. Go left. Exit down the steps to enter the alchemy laboratory. Valentina is now in the laboratory with Adrian.

Mordred's alchemy laboratory

A cinematic cut scene is played. Valentina asks Adrian to look in the Book of Guardians. Learn that Mordred has created a shade for his sword so that the sword can be used both sides of the mirror. Mordred wants to rule on both sides of the mirror. Learn that the sword is characterized by a black stain which is spreading.

Valentina asks Adrian to read about soul transfers from the book. Learn about the Druids and the soul ritual. Go right to the old swords to look at them. Valentina concludes that Adrian needs a sword to fight on the other side of the mirror. Adrian must use Mordred's sword. Go left to the alchemy table. Look at the table.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Valentina devises a plan. Valentina will slow down Adrian's heartbeat using a poison. This will free Mordred's soul from Adrian's body. This will also free Adrian's soul, meaning that Adrian will die. Once Adrian dies, Valentina will then use the syringe of adrenaline on Adrian to resuscitate him.

Go right to the cathedral to exit the alchemy laboratory.

Catacombs

Chapel

Valentina and Adrian are back in the chapel within the catacombs. Go to the sarcophagus. Look at the sarcophagus.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Valentina explains more of her plan. Mordred's bones are to be used to lure his shade out of Adrian's body. This is exactly the same ritual Mordred has used on King Armundor's body. Valentina asks Adrian to move Mordred's bones to the altar at the Black Mirror. Valentina tells Adrian about the shades, the souls, near death experiences, and the mirror.

Valentina tells Adrian that they need to find Mordred's sword. Adrian recalls his last visit to the tea room in the castle. He remembers the description of the sword with a black stain in the Book of the Guardians to the moldy outline of a sword in the tea room. He deduces that the sword is hidden in the tea room. Valentina leaves to get the sword, while Adrian takes Mordred's bones to the altar.

Go to Mordred's sarcophagus to open it. Use the Polaroid camera on the sarcophagus to get a photo of Mordred's skeleton (Figure 25). The arrangement of the bones must be replicated at the altar. Get Mordred's skeleton. Exit the chapel to the secret passage. Enter the stone door to enter the Black Mirror room.

Altar

Go to the altar in front of the Black Mirror. Use Mordred's skeleton on the altar. Click on the altar to get a close-up view of the altar and the bones.

Adrian needs to arrange the bones exactly as they appear on the Polaroid photo. Start at the skull to place the spine and work methodically down the body (Figure 26).

(Note: In this puzzle, white circles appear at the end of each bone at the joint site whenever 2 bones are placed near to each other. Release the bone to drop it in place when the 2 white circles merge to form 1 white circle. If a bone is placed incorrectly, pick it up and try another bone.)

When correctly done, Adrian will say, "Yup, that looks right."

Tea room

Change to play as Valentina. She is in the tea room. Notice a black stain on the wall. Use the dagger on the stain to cut away the wallpaper. She finds Mordred's sword without the tip. Get the sword. Exit to the hall. Valentina goes back to the Black Mirror room.

You are now playing as Adrian. Talk to Valentina. Learn of the procedure to use the poison and the adrenaline.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Valentina goes to the alchemy laboratory to prepare the poison.

Mordred's alchemy laboratory

Go to the alchemy table. Click on the table to get the poison. Exit the stone door to be in the Black Mirror room.

Altar

Look at Adrian lying on the altar with Mordred's bones beside him. Use the sword on Adrian.

A cinematic cut scene is played. Valentina administers the poison to Adrian. She watches the Black Mirror. Valentina sees a fight. She can see Mordred but not Adrian. The shade is transferring between the bodies. The fight is over.

Use the adrenaline on Adrian. Adrian has beaten Mordred. The curse is finally lifted. Valentina utters, "The last of the Gordon's has done it."

Library

Adrian and Valentina are back in the library at Black Mirror Castle. Adrian is writing in his diary. Read the diary (in the inventory) to learn about the fate of the chapel, Black Mirror, and the Gordon family. Learn about the true purpose of the black balls. They are used to trap and control the shades.
